Clinical Supervision and Volunteer Positions
Supervision is an integral part of the on-going development of skills and competence of therapists. According to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, "supervision and the opportunities that it provides for critical self-reflection and professional growth are central components of ethical social work...most importantly, it promotes high quality care for clients."
Supervisors at Good Therapy meet the requirements of both, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, to provide clinical supervision to interning and new therapists.
Note: clinical supervision is not for the general public.
Clinical Internship/Field Placements at Good Therapy
Attention Master's students! Have you considered doing your clinical internship at Good Therapy? We are an approved practicum site for the Master of Social Work program at King's College UWO, Wilfred Laurier University, and the Master of Arts Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University. Good Therapy offers both in person practicums as well as external supervision to therapy-related masters level students in their advanced placement or final year, who have previous clinical experience and are seeking to fulfill their clinical graduate degree requirements.
Full Internship:
As a clinical intern, you can expect to meet with and provide counselling services to clients in-person, in a supportive private practice setting. You will have an opportunity to apply a variety of clinical theoretical modalities, learn about managing a caseload, case conceptualization, the basics of administrative duties, documentation, and operating within a private practice business model. The clinical internship is a hybrid program comprising in-person and virtual client and supervision sessions, with a major emphasis on working in-person at the clinic. The intern must be willing and available to work in the Stratford location.
External Supervision:
Do you have a practicum site already arranged but you're looking for an approved supervisor? We'd be happy to offer you external supervision that meets your school requirements. External supervision typically includes 1-2 hours of weekly meetings (in-person and/or virtual) with a supervisor, supportive feedback on your video recorded clinical sessions, evaluations, and other non-clinical indirect learning opportunities.
Note: Please inquire for information regarding fees associated with supervision.
Clinical Supervision for New & Qualifying Therapists
Good Therapy offers clinical supervision to new social workers and qualifying psychotherapists with an existing case load, covering topics including case conceptualization, consultation and supervision, the application of therapeutic modalities, charting and documentation, confidentiality, duty to report, and ethical considerations. We highlight the importance of self care and assess for burnout. Clinical supervision is offered one-on-one on an as-needed or on-going basis based on the supervisee's needs.
In both approaches, the goal is to collaboratively develop a supervisory plan that accommodates the supervisee's unique needs.
Note: supervision should not be confused with the supervisee's own personal therapy. It is recommended that supervisees seek their own therapy, independently from supervision, in order to explore their personal concerns.
Volunteer Positions
Are you a 3rd year undergraduate university student studying Psychology, Social Work, or a related major in human services and wanting to gain experience in a private psychotherapy practice setting?
Alternatively, are you a final year college student studying media arts, advertising, or marketing and seeking volunteer hours to fulfill your academic requirements?
Limited volunteer positions are open to outgoing, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented candidates to assist with clinic tasks such as:

Note: Clinical client work is not part of the volunteer position.
